An Unwelcome Interruption

I put my food on the table and the doorbell rang. I breathed a deep sigh and clenched my jaw. I closed the door behind me and made my way to the front of the house.

“Oh hello, Mr Ducacus. How may I help you?” I asked, answering the door.

His eyes were darting around nervously, “I wonder if you’d seen my son lately. He was supposed to stay around a friend’s yesterday. But his mom said he never turned up.”

“I’m so sorry, I haven’t. But I’ll let you know as soon as I do.”

“Thanks… Thanks. Your food smells nice, hope you enjoy it,” he said.

His shoulders deflated as he walked away.

I closed the door behind me and smiled.

Yes, he does smell good, doesn’t he…
